Hi ,

Welcome to your ANMF Tasmanian Branch eNewsletter.

Enjoy reading all about the latest news and updates in the past fortnight.

North West Regional Hospital Operating Suite

The ongoing workload dispute in the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) Operating Room Suite (ORS) was to be heard on Tuesday 29 April 2025 in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC). The ANMF officials and Workplace Delegates are pleased to announce that on Monday 28 April 2025, the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) has committed to funding the Full Time Equivalent (FTE) increase for a 12 month period, further benchmarking will occur prior to the end of the 12 month period. Pleasingly, this will see a nursing FTE of 40.13, an increase from the current establishment of 32.78 FTE, plus an increase in Transition to Practice (TtP) and support staff. The positions created will be fixed term with recruitment to commence as soon as possible. Vacant positions already on the establishment are able to be recruited to permanently as per normal processes.

This is a significant win for members who have continued to stand with their union to secure safe staffing levels and enforce members’ entitlements. The ANMF remains fully committed to our members.

The ANMF Attends the TIC Over Public Sector Staffing Crisis

ANMF officials attended the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) this week to address the ongoing statewide staffing crisis impacting nurses and midwives across the public sector. This follows repeated concerns raised by members about excessive vacancies, unsafe workloads, reliance on overtime and double shifts, and the increasing frequency of working short.

ANMF Tasmania 2025 Federal Election Key Priorities: MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT!

Nurses, midwives, and care workers are the backbone of our healthcare system — providing vital care in hospitals, aged care facilities, and communities across Tasmania. To ensure timely, effective care for all Tasmanians, the ANMF Tasmanian Branch has shared our key priorities with all Federal Election candidates:

✅  Nurse Practitioner-led clinics in rural and remote Tasmania

✅  Autonomous practice for nurses and nurse practitioners (NPs) in Medicare Urgent Care Centres

✅  Bulk billing rights for nurses, midwives & NPs

✅  Co-funded community nursing services to reduce hospital demand

✅  Fair funding: Increase federal contribution to public hospitals to 50%
✅  Transparency and Accountability in aged care, including mandated care minutes and enforcement.

Candidates have been invited to respond and are shared online to help inform your vote.
View the full priority list and read candidates responses.
Together, we can build a stronger, fairer, and more sustainable healthcare system for Tasmania.

New AHPRA Registration System

Ahpra recently launched a new online practitioner portal, and new digital smart forms for application and renewal of registration. As a result, registration renewal for all nurses and midwives will open shortly. Before anyone can renew their registration this year, they must set up their practitioner portal, including multifactor authentication for extra security.

To support what will be a big change for practitioners, Ahpra has created a portal help centre featuring ‘how-to’ videos and step-by-step guides.

Reminder: AHPRA Registrations Due by 31 May 2025!

Nurses and midwives with general or non-practising registration must renew their registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) by 31 May each year. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) manages the renewal process and will send email reminders once online renewal is open. Keep an eye on your inbox and ensure your contact details are up-to-date to receive important notifications.

Meeting registration requirements includes maintaining Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII). ANMF membership provides comprehensive PII, keeping you protected and covered. Don’t forget to check the national register to confirm your registration details.
